W’burg Save A Lot makes donation to Toys for Tots

The Williamsburg Save A Lot partners each year with Toys for Tots to help make sure that kids don’t go without gifts at Christmas time. Recently, management announced that, with the help of the local community, they were able to make a donation of over $7,000 to this year’s efforts. Save A Lot will serve as a drop-off point for toys for the next several weeks. Look for the boxes shown in this photo.

W’burg agrees to give land to IMI if it operates concrete plant for 10 years

If all goes well, the City of Williamsburg will be gladly giving an approximately five-acre track of land to IMI Real Estate LLC about 10 years from now in exchange for the company opening and operating a concrete plant on property that the city now owns near Savoy Road adjacent to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. “This will offer an opportunity for businesses to come to Williamsburg to get their concrete,” noted Williamsburg Mayor Roddy Harrison. Work to update W’burg water infrastructure slated for spring

Williamsburg officials are hoping to start construction on a project this spring to revamp the Williamsburg water treatment plant and to replace some of the oldest waterlines in town. “This is attacking all bigger lines from the lines from the plant through town and the older parts where we think there are probably a lot of water leaks underground that we don’t know about,” said Mayor Roddy Harrison. “We also need to upgrade the water treatment plant. The Williamsburg City Council took time during their monthly meeting Monday to recognize recently retired Williamsburg Police Department Victim’s Advocate Angie Weaver. Weaver served 27 years as the city’s victim’s advocate. “Angie was one that I could call every time somebody came in here late at night or in the evening. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has announced that bridge inspections have been scheduled for both the southbound and northbound lanes of I-75 at the 14.5 mile marker in Whitley County on Thursday, Oct. 16. KYTC advises motorists that the southbound bridge inspection will take place from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, with the northbound bridge inspection taking place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A lane closure (slow lanes) will be in effect during the inspections. Preliminary hearing set for woman who allegedly assaulted a nurse at Baptist Health Corbin

An Oct. 21 preliminary hearing has been scheduled for a Pippa Passes woman, who allegedly assaulted a nurse at Baptist Health Corbin earlier this month. Corbin Police Patrolman William Stewart arrested Lisa G. Black, 56, and charged her with third-degree assault in connection with the Oct. 7 incident. About 11:40 a.m., Corbin police received a call about a female patient allegedly hitting a nurse in the face and being combative, Stewart wrote on the arrest citation. When Stewart arrived at the hospital, he met security and the victim, who had a cut on the left side of her chin from allegedly being struck, the citation stated.
