Former Williamsburg Yellow Jacket Cam Bowen
“It’s all about perseverance.” That is what former Williamsburg Yellow Jacket Cameron Bowen had to say about making it to the professional level of sports. You have to possess a certain level of athletic talent, of course, but according to him, the most important thing is always going to be the amount of heart and dedication that you’re able to bring into the equation.
Bowen was a member of the WHS varsity baseball team between 2015-2019, helping lead the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back 13th Region “All A” championship titles as a junior and senior in 2018 and 2019.

This summer, former Corbin Redhound and current Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitter Bradric Helton is continuing to hone his skills on the baseball diamond as a member of the Dubois County Bombers in Huntingburg, Ind. This development actually creates a unique connection between him and the late Mary Weddle-Hines, one of Corbin’s most famous citizens, who passed away nearly four years ago.
You see, the Bombers play in the historic League Stadium, which was originally built in 1894. In 1991, the stadium was renovated and used for the filming of A League of Their Own, the now-classic sports movie starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis that told a fictionalized story based...
Since Cody Philpot first took the reins of the Corbin Redhounds varsity baseball program back in 2015, the team has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success. When taking a look at the Hounds’ accomplishments over the course of the past decade, the list of accolades breaks down as follows:

If the 13th Region champion Corbin Redhounds (20-17) are to be successful in their quest to bring home a KHSAA State Championship title in the coming days, they will first have to knock off the defending state champion Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers (26-6) in round one.
The Panthers won their second consecutive 6th Region championship last week, meaning they will return to Lexington this week to defend their 2024 state champion-ship title.
PRP is a veteran-led team this year. Their roster is full of mostly juniors and seniors, including senior slugger Koble Howard and top pitchers Grayson Roll and Logan Strong.
Corbin has plenty of seasoned vets on the roster as well,...
After recent victories in this year’s NAIA Opening Round competitions, the University of the Cumberlands baseball and softball teams are advancing to the final sites of the 2025 national championship tournaments.
The baseball Pats (48-10) are scheduled to play in their first game this Friday, May 23, against Hope International University out of California. The HIU Royals were crowned champions of the Great Southwest Athletic Conference earlier this season before coming out on top of their NAIA Opening Round mini-tournament in Lewiston, Idaho. Lewiston also serves as the final site for the NAIA National Tournament, so the team will be used to their surroundings when they suit up to...

What if I told you that there is an all-time career home runs record-holder playing right here in Whitley County? Not a program record holder, but a national record holder… It’s true.
University of the Cumberlands senior catcher Charlie Muniz, a native of Naranjito, Puerto Rico, recently broke the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) record for career home runs when he smacked his 89th ball over a fence during a recent road game against Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla.
Muniz then hit home run number 90 during a March 12 home game against Johnson University (Tenn.), and followed that up by hitting four more homers against visiting Mid-South...
Head Coach Brennen Patrick’s first year at the helm of the WHS baseball program was a tough one when it comes to wins and losses. With only two victories on the year, 2024 was full of difficult learning experiences for coaches and players alike.
This year, Patrick says that the Yellow Jackets are looking forward to taking the next steps toward building a winning culture in their dugout.
“It takes time,” Patrick said of establishing a winning identity. “I challenge them a lot. When it comes to both their school work and to being out on the field, we need to strive toward excellence in everything that we’re doing.”
Patrick also...
