Redhounds advance to 13th Region Tournaments

The Corbin Redhounds are moving on to the 13th Region tournament. The Redhounds earned their spot on Saturday with a 90-68 victory over Whitley County in the first round of the 50th District Tournament. Josh Hibbits led the way for Corbin with 26 points, while Dakota Patterson and Hayden Llewellyn each chipped in 22 points. The victory, along with South Laurel’s 80-71 win over Williamsburg, set up Monday night’s 50th District Championship Game. Lady Jackets’ Mikkah Siler named 13th Region Player of the Year

Williamsburg Lady Jackets senior basketball player Mikkah Siler will be one of 16 finalists for 2021 Miss Basketball after being named 13th Region Player of the Year. Siler and the other players of the year in each of the 16 regions were chosen by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. “It’s not something that I expected to happen,” Siler said noting that she learned of the honor when the video naming the winners was released on Friday. Williamsburg Lady Jackets senior basketball player Mikkah Siler will be one of 16 finalists for 2021 Miss Basketball after being named 13th Region Player of the Year. Siler and the other players of the year in each of the 16 regions were chosen by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches. Members of the Kentucky sports media and former Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball recipients will vote for 2021 Mr. and Miss Kentucky Basketball. Mikkah Siler, a senior basketball player, was announced as the 2021 Williamsburg Basketball Homecoming Queen on March 2. The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets defeated the Pineville Mountain Lions 84-78.

Fans wanting to attend 50th District Basketball Tournament must purchase tickets in advance

Fans interested in attending the 50th District Basketball Tournament Saturday at Williamsburg must purchase tickets through the participating schools. “Only persons on the 50th District Spectator List provided by each school will be admitted into the gym to watch their team compete,” said Williamsburg Athletic Director Jerry Herron noting the change is part of the COVID–19 restrictions put in place. Fans will be required to exit the building following their game. The boys’ tournament will begin at noon with Williamsburg facing off against South Laurel. 50th District tournaments begin Saturday

The Road to Rupp in southeast Kentucky will tip off Saturday as the boys’s and girls 50th District Basketball tournaments begin at Williamsburg High School. The boys’ tournament will begin at noon with Williamsburg taking on South Laurel. That will be followed at 2:30 p.m. with Corbin taking on Whitley County. The girls’ action will begin at 5 p.m. when Whitley County faces Williamsburg. CMS Redhounds win state title

The year that would not end for the Corbin Middle School Seventh Grade Redhounds, ended on the highest of notes Sunday with a 38-18 win over Clay County to bring home the state championship. “This group is just ultra-competitive,” said Coach Jimmy Hendrickson noting the team came up short as sixth graders. “They want to win everything.” The season began in November when the Redhounds played their opening game. “Then we got shut down for three weeks,” Hendrickson said noting the team was sidelined until mid-December. Basketball Sweet 16 bracket draws set for March 10

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association announced Tuesday that the bracket drawing for the boys and girls Sweet 16 Basketball tournaments will be held at 12:30 p.m. on March 10. The 16 regions will be seated into the brackets through a random drawing. The draw show will be televised by the CW Lexington, and will also be streamed online at KHSAA.tv and WKYT.com. Both tournaments will be held at Rupp Arena in Lexington. The boys’ tournament will begin March 31 with the championship scheduled for April 3.
