When the Corbin Redhounds run out of the locker room and onto Campbell Field Friday night, the 2021 edition will look very familiar. Coach Tom Greer will again have Cameron Combs under center, and Combs will have Seth Mills, TreyVeon Longmire, Carter Stewart and Dakota Patterson among the weapons in Redhound arsenal. “We have some shoes to fill, including three offensive linemen and running back,” Greer said. “Offensively, things don’t change for us. With the building’s elevator down Tuesday, and a host of moving needed to be done at Corbin Elementary School, a squad of more than 20 Corbin High School Football players brought the muscle. The freshmen and sophomore players helped to move more than 1,000 pieces of furniture into the school that included new desks and chairs for the students. “These young men moved all of the furniture up two and three flights of stairs to the classrooms,” school officials noted. “We appreciate you guys!” school officials said. “Go Redhounds!”

Football practice began Monday night at Corbin High School as players participated in speed and agility drills on the track. Coach Tom Greer said the Redhounds were also working in the weight room. Corbin’s skill players are scheduled for seven-on-seven drills later this week in Tennessee, while the linemen will remain in town to work out. Whitley County, Williamsburg and Lynn Camp also began workouts in preparation for putting on the pads on Aug. 1. The regular season is scheduled to begin on Aug. 20.

Players won’t begin football practice until July 10, but schedules for the upcoming season are complete. The Whitley County Colonels, who will be going into the first season under Coach Zeke Eier, will open the season Aug. 20 at Perry County Central. Eier’s first game in front of the Whitley County faithful will be the First Priority Bowl on Aug. 27 against Corbin. Whitley County will be back on the road on Sept. 3 against Harlan County. On Sept. 17, the Colonels will begin a three-game home stand with Bell County, followed by Pulaski County on Sept. 24 and Collins on Oct. 1. Changes other than district opponents are coming to Kentucky high school football in 2023. The Kentucky High School Athletic Association announced that the Board of Control voted to return to the pre-2019 playoff format that had teams face sister district opponents in the first two rounds. KHSAA officials noted that the board voted based upon a survey of the 225 football playing schools. Of the 167 responses received, 109 supported returning to the previous format. District one in each class will face district two, district three will face district four, district five will face district six and district seven will face district eight. The Lynn Camp High School Football Team now has a new head coach. “I am very excited today to announce our new head football coach, Mr. Mark Huddleston. After it came down to West Virginia, Louisville, Kentucky, Virginia Tech and a couple others, Treyveon Longmire told Kentucky Sports Radio Friday that he has committed to play football at the University of Kentucky.
