While the Corbin Redhounds Football team was very impressive in Friday night’s 27-7 win over Franklin County, the entire atmosphere at Campbell Field was even more so because it is exactly what high school football should be under the Friday night lights. The Whitley County Colonels will head back on the road Friday night to Harlan County still seeking the first win of the Coach Zeke Eier era and some redemption following the 45-0 loss to Corbin. The Colonels’ offense was held to 140 total yards, turning the ball over three times as the Redhounds built a 32-0 halftime lead. Caden Petrey completed five of 11 passes for 59 yards. Williamsburg Football Coach Jerry Herron, Jr. said there is a big difference between Friday night’s 60-28 thrashing at the hands of Middlesboro and last year’s 27-7 loss in the state semi-finals to Kentucky Country Day. New Coach Zeke Eier said it will be a battle to see which team can impose its desire to consistently run the ball while taking away the opponent’s running game. Call it a homeish opener as the Jackets will face Oneida, Tennessee at Corbin’s Campbell Field in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic. Williamsburg has faced Oneida in the past, though it is going back nearly a decade.
