Same as the Corbin boys, the Lady Redhounds had a very good Friday and Saturday last week, picking up back-to-back wins over 50th District opponents to improve to 7-11 on the year.
On Friday, Corbin faced Whitley County in game one of a boys/girls double header at Gilliam Gymnasium. Whitley was in control of the contest early on, but the Lady Hounds battled back. With just a minute and change left in regulation, the home team trailed by two points, 47-45. It was then that senior Sarah Beth Price hit a three-point basket to give her team the 48-47 lead.
The Lady Colonels had an opportunity to retake the lead, but...
It was a big week for the Corbin Redhounds, who picked up two very important victories in back-to-back outings last Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the Hounds welcomed in the Whitley County Colonels for a matchup between 50th District rivals. Despite being the underdogs in this contest, the Colonels came ready to play. A buzzer beater three-point shot from junior Corey Johnson put the visitors up 19-14 at the end of one quarter, and at halftime they only trailed by three, 35-32.
Corbin was able to outscore Whitley 18-15 in the third quarter, however, and after an even 16-16 fourth quarter they went on to secure the 69-63 win. It was...

This year the Border Bowl turns ten, and those involved with helping put on the annual high school all-star football game will be celebrating that achievement south of the state line in Sevierville, TN.
This will be the first time that the Border Bowl has been played somewhere other than Williamsburg. For the past nine years, the best high school football players from across Kentucky and Tennessee have come together to showcase their talents at James H. Taylor II Stadium on the campus of the University of the Cumberlands. Border Bowl X, however, will...
The Kentucky-Tennessee Border Bowl is moving to Sevierville in 2017.
For the past nine years the University of the Cumberlands’ James H. Taylor II Stadium has been the site of the annual all-star high school football game, but Border Bowl X will feature a change of scenery. This year’s game is being played at Sevier County High School, home of the Smoky Bears, with practices taking place at the state-of-the-art Rocky Top Sports World facility in Gatlinburg.
Williamsburg’s Jerry Herron is serving as head coach for this year’s Kentucky All-Stars team. “I’m honored to represent the state of Kentucky,” he said. “I have a great staff helping me this year. We’ve...
You could call them “the Unforgettables.” Or maybe “the Untouchables...”
Those terms have been used to describe various other teams in the past, but they would also most certainly apply to the group of former Williamsburg High School athletes that led the Yellow Jackets to two Class A state championship football games and an appearance in the 2015 Sweet 16 state championship basketball tournament, among other accomplishments.
Skyler Griffith. Michael Rose-Creekmore. Corey Shelton. Eric Poore. Garrett Faulkner. Chase Lowrie. Ethan Wilson. Fred Massey. These are the senior members of the 2014-15 Williamsburg boys basketball team that went 25-5, winning All “A” region, 50th District and 13th Region championships before losing to...
The Whitley County Colonels are making the short trip north this Friday evening for a huge 50th District showdown against the Corbin Redhounds. Leading the charge will be three seniors – Tyler Downs, Josh Richardson and Jimmy Thornton.
Downs, 18, has been playing basketball since he was in kindergarten. “I’ve been through a lot,” he said. “I’ve been through sitting on the end of the bench doing nothing, and I’ve just had to fight the whole way. I’ve had to fight to get my chance to play.”
Downs is a physical player, which helped him tremendously while competing on the football field, but he knows that he has to take a...
Last week, the Redhound Varsity Club presented the 2016 Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament. A field of eight teams competed to become this year’s CFIT champions, but in the end it was the host Corbin Redhounds who were able to secure their first invitational crown since 2012.
Everything kicked off last Tuesday, December 27, with two first round contests. The Barbourville Tigers took on Estill County in the early game, and what a game it was. It took an overtime period to get the job done, but Estill was able to top the Tigers 55-52 to advance to the semifinal round on Thursday.
In the late game Tuesday, the Knox Central Panthers...

Well, here we are. We made it to another New Year. I hope that everyone’s holiday season was full of happiness and great memories, and of course, plenty of fun watching and/or participating in sports.
For me personally, a good chunk of the holidays are always spent following our local basketball teams as they travel to play in various classics and tournaments. It was another exciting and productive season for these events over the last couple of weeks, and it all culminated with the 2016 Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament at Corbin High School.

The last week of 2016 was a special one for the Corbin Redhounds basketball team. After finishing as runner-up in the Smoky Mountain Classic just before Christmas, the Hounds came out on top of the 30th Annual Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament, which they hosted last Tuesday through Friday inside Gilliam Gymnasium at Corbin High School.
Prior to tipoff of their first game in this year’s CFIT, Corbin’s five senior players took a few moments to discuss their journeys as Redhounds, their excitement over competing in their final Falls Invitational, their hopes for the future and more.
Blake Burns said that he has learned a lot through his experiences playing basketball, explaining...
