After nearly six years as Corbin High School Athletic Director, Tackett Wilson’s next chapter is under construction. Wilson joined the Corbin Independent School District after a career with the Kentucky State Police. “We got in on the ground floor as a criminal justice teacher,” said Wilson. “I was on the ground floor of a criminal justice unit that were starting statewide, so I got to help bring that to Corbin.” After several years in the classroom, the athletic director position opened up. “At first, I didn’t know about it,” Wilson explained. “I was doing a lot of high school , and I was doing some college officiating.” During his time as an official,...

Lynn Camp Head Coach Allen Mitchell recorded his first win with the Wildcats since he returned to his alma mater. The Wildcats defeated Berea Community 30-24. “Our kids really just fought hard to get the win,” said Mitchell. The contest against Berea was Josh Jody’s first as quarterback. The freshman threw for 190 yards and rushed for 15 yards. “Our freshman quarterback had a little bit of difficulties in the first half - his first time under center, but once he settled down, we started doing some things offensively in the second half and our energy really amped up,’ said Mitchell. Corbin defeated North Laurel 42-14 Friday night at Campbell Field, but it wasn’t until well into the second half for the Redhounds to open it up on the visiting Jaguars.  Going into half time, the Redhounds led the Jags 13-7. Less than two minutes into the second half, the Jags would take their only lead in the game going up 14-13.  From then on, the Redhounds woke up and was the only team to see the end zone the rest of the way. Williamsburg continued its winning streak on Friday overpowering Paris High School to a 44-16 win. Williamsburg Football Head Coach Jerry Herron said his team’s strategy was in place well before the Yellow Jackets stepped onto the field Friday night. “We spent time, a lot of time, scouting them and we had a game plan,” said Herron. “We had five turnovers and three of them led to touchdowns, two pick sixes and a fumble recovery that almost scored, so we executed the defensive game plan really well.”  On the other side of the ball, Herron said his team had a good idea of what they would face. “Offensively we knew they were going to...

Whitley County Football is still looking to hit its stride this season after another loss on Friday. The Colonels traveled to Hazard where the Bulldogs won 31-0. Whitley County Head Coach Matt Rhymer said the team went into half time down 3-0, but upon returning to the field, the Colonels would turn the ball over three times in 13 plays. “It really you know hurt as they pulled away there in the second half,” said Rhymer. “We just had a hard time getting anything going on offense, but defensively did some good things.” On offense, Rhymer said his team had some chances, but they couldn’t capitalize before running out of time. “I think...

Congratulations to Corbin High School golfers Makena Myatt and Kalyn Watkins, who recently advanced to the state finals. Myatt improved on her own personal best and set the lady’s course record firing a five under 67 at Wasioto Winds Golf Course at Pine Mountain State Park on Aug. 18 to win the Kentucky 2A Section 7 Girls’ Qualifier. Myatt sank a birdie putt on the final hole. Watkins held her own shooting an 82 on what I can personally attest is a tough golf course. Starting in 2017, the MLB started hosting a MLB game in Williamsport, PA. This year we had a match up between two first place teams, the Atlanta Braves vs the Milwaukee Brewers. This game was a close one. Here is my recap of the 2026 Little League Classic. First, I want to mention  the pitching in the game. The match up we saw was the Braves Tyler Mahle vs the Brewers Shane Drohan. First, Tyler Mahle was amazing for Atlanta, he pitched 5 innings letting up 6 hits, and 1 earned run, while getting out of countless jams. Gallery photos by John Crisologo Both Whitley County and Lynn Camp suffered losses during the first regular season games. Whitley County fell to Knox Central High School at home 2-42. The Colonels threw for 48 yards and rushed for 65. The Panthers, on the other, hand threw for 164 yards and rushed for 136. Lynn Camp lost its first contest on the road, 0-55, to Jellico. Prior to the season, Lynn Camp Head Coach Allen Mitchell acknowledged that his team was small and had limited depth, but with the start of school on Aug. 24, he says he is anticipating more students joining his squad soon.
