Corbin student athletes sign college letters of intent

Five Corbin High School student athletes signed letters of intent on May 6. Max Farmer signed to play football at the University of the Cumberlands.       Xandria Beller signed to play golf at Kentucky Christian University.     Jaycee Frye signed with Lincoln Memorial University for track and field and cross country.     Seth Jones signed with Midway University for wrestling.       Cam Estep signed to play baseball at Eastern Kentucky University.

Whitley Co. Middle School Soccer wins 1st district title

Whitley County’s middle school soccer team made history on April 30 by winning its first district championship in program history, according to the Whitley County Soccer Facebook page.

Whitley Co. Bass Fishing takes top spot in Region 3

Whitley County Bass Fishing duo Braydan Rose and Aaden Taylor took home first place at the Region 3 competition. The duo’s catch weighed in at 16 pounds and 12 ounces. Corbin’s Jacob White and Cameron Slone came in ninth with a weight of 8 pounds 11 ounces. Whitley County’s Caden Conlin and Brayden Shelton placed 15th with a weight of 7 pounds 3 ounces.

Corbin names former Whitley Co., UC golfer as girls golf head coach

The Corbin Lady Redhounds Golf team welcomed a new head coach last week. Latoshia Davis spent last season as assistant coach under Joe Roberts. Davis started playing golf at 10 years old. She is a 2013 Whitley County High School graduate who went on to play at the University of the Cumberlands. “This is a special place with a strong sense of pride, and I’m excited to pour into these young ladies both on and off the course,” said Davis. “This team has the potential to be something special. With dedication and the right mindset, I believe we can turn that potential into real success on the course.” Davis is currently a board member...

Corbin wins Colonel Classic Track and Field meet

Area schools converged in Whitley County for the Colonel Classic track and field meet on April 30. Corbin took home top honors in both the girls and boys competitions. Williamsburg ranked third with Whitley County coming in sixth in the girls competition. On the boys side, Williamsburg came in second with Whitley County claiming the number four spot.

Whitley Co. travels to Corbin for tennis match ups ahead of 13th Region tournament

Photos by HUNTER JUAREZ Whitley County Colonels tennis traveled to Corbin. Corbin won the boys and girls matches 5-4 on April 28. Corbin boys began regional play on May 4. They downed Clay County 5-0. The 13th Region girls tournament began May 5.

Whitley Co. leads in 13th Region rankings

Whitley County Freshman Cooper Parman is third in statewide rankings for doubles this season. As a whole, the Colonels’ are ranked fifth in the state for team doubles, sixth for team triples, sixth for team RBIs, seventh for team strikeouts and second for team earned run average. Whitley County is ranked number one in statewide RPI. These rankings were as of 3:02 a.m. on April 28.

North Laurel Jaguars defeat Redhounds

North Laurel’s visit to Don House Field sent the Redhounds into the dog house. The Jaguars earned their second win over the Redhounds this season with a final of 2-1 on April 23. Early in the season, the teams met up at North Laurel where the Jaguars won 5-4. Corbin last defeated North Laurel on March 18, 2025. That game had a final score of 8-5.

Colonels take down the Redhounds at Don House Field

In the first meeting between the Corbin Redhounds and the Whitley County Colonels since the 2025 13th Region Championship, the Colonels took home a 10-2 victory. The story was reversed last season when Corbin defeated the Colonels 7-2 to clench the 13th Region title. The two teams met again Tuesday evening, but the final score was not available as of print deadline.
