The Whitley County Colonels volleyball team is headed to the final four of the 2026 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.
The Colonels downed Bowling Green 3-1 Friday night.
Head Coach David Halcomb described the win saying, “Words really can’t describe, you know, the feeling we have, just to see these girls come together and believe they can do something like this. From way back in the spring, last spring, you know, in summer, we worked hard. We go to camps, and just for this moment right here.”
That hard work is paying off. This team is the first 13th Region team to advance to the final four in the state volleyball tournament.
“To see them execute on this stage and play the way they played, and the unity that they showed is just, you can’t ask for anymore,” said Halcomb.
During the game, Halcomb reminded his players to play one point at a time.
“That’s one thing we try to tell them – just one point at a time,” said Halcomb. “If you don’t win a point, you got to win the next one, so that’s sort of what I’ve tried to teach.”
The Colonels take on Notre Dame Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
“We know Notre Dame is a powerhouse in the state,” said Halcomb. “But, you know, we can be pretty good too, and once you get there, you never know what will happen.”
The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
