Former Corbin Lady Hounds softball standout Hannah Hart has been nominated for induction into the Kentucky Prep Softball Hall of Fame next summer during the Annual East/West All-Star game, to be held at the University of the Cumberlands.
Hart was an All-State selection all four years of her high school career, and she was chosen as the Kentucky Softball Coaches Association’s Player of the Year for middle-size schools in 2012 and 2013.
Hart went on to play collegiately at Morehead State University, making her the first-and-only D-I softball player to come out of Corbin High School. While at MSU, she earned All-OVC Academic honors.

The accolades have piled up for Corbin junior Chase Estep recently, and rightfully so. The University of Kentucky commit has enjoyed an outstanding sports year in 2017-18, first helping the Redhounds football team make it to the Class 3A finals back in December, and then helping the baseball Hounds to 50th District and 13th Region championships this spring.

At Whitley County High School, the Corbin Redhounds topped Knox Central 4-0 to advance to Wednesday's regional championship game with an overall record of 23 wins and 12 losses. Junior Chase Estep struck out six Panther batters in the win while teammate Ben Phillips went two-for-three at the plate with two RBIs.

As reported in last week’s edition of the News Journal, a total of 18 high school tennis players from the coverage area are slated to compete in this year’s KHSAA state championships in Lexington.
The tournaments will kick off tomorrow (Thursday) with Corbin’s Katherine Niemeier taking on Carrie Beckman of Sacred Heart at 8:00 a.m. at the University of Kentucky’s Boone/Downing Tennis Complex.

Regular season district play opened up Tuesday for area high school baseball teams, with the Whitley County Colonels hosting the Corbin Redhounds and the South Laurel Cardinals hosting the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets.
The Redhounds went to Whitley County Tuesday looking to keep a three-game win streak alive. On the other hand, the host Colonels were hoping to hang on to their region-best win-loss record. In the end, it was Corbin who was able to come out on top by the final score of 12-4, improving them to 10-4 on the season.
