Lady Jackets win 13th Region All “A” championship Thursday

With a thrilling 1-0 victory over visiting Middlesboro Thursday evening, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets softball team became 13th Region All "A" champions in 2018. It took an extra inning of work for the Lady Jackets to get the job done Thursday, with both teams threatening at various points throughout the game, but neither being able to bring in a run by the end of regulation. Middlesboro put runners on second and third base in the top of the eighth, and seemed poised to score the first run of the contest, but a diving catch by Williamsburg senior catcher Lesleigh Prewitt with two outs on the board kept the score at...

LCHS softball looking forward to productive 2018 season

Lynn Camp Softball Coach Nikki Hendrix says her Lady Wildcats are a young team with only one senior and two juniors on the roster, but likes that they aren’t new to the program or high school softball. “We lost six starters, but our youth has some experience in the district and region,” Hendrix said noting the team finished runner-up in the 51st District before losing to Clay County in the 13th Region Tournament. Hendrix said the 2018 Lady Wildcats will once again hit the ball very well, and expects pitching and defense to improve. “We didn’t have a consistent pitcher in 2017,” Hendrix said. Hendrix said freshman Madyson Roberts would be her primary...

Prewitt sisters, Lesleigh and Caitlyn, talk their expectations for Lady Jackets softball in 2018

With head coach Jason Prewitt coming into his fourth year leading the program, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets softball team is looking to continue improving in 2018. In the softball tournament, held at South Laurel High School, the Corbin Lady Hounds kicked things off Monday with a game at noon against the North Laurel Lady Jaguars. After a three-run top of the second inning, a solo home run from Emily Sizemore in the top of the fourth and a one-run top of the fifth, the Jags looked as if they might be able to end Corbin’s 2017 season with a shutout loss. The Hounds prevented that, however, with sophomore Harleigh Grubb smacking an...
