Williamsburg (7-7, 1-3) will hope to bounce back Thursday when they go on the road to face Berea. The Corbin Redhounds are still undefeated in 50th District play, improving to 12-3, 3-0 with an impressive 9-0 victory at South Laurel Tuesday. The Cardinals will travel to Corbin on Wednesday...

Senior Spotlight: 2017 Williamsburg Softball

With wins over Whitley County, Scott, TN and McCreary Central this past week, the Williamsburg Lady Jackets were able to push their season record out to 6-3 ahead of a scheduled home game against South Laurel Tuesday. After defeating Corbin in the first round of last year’s 50th District tournament and advancing to the semifinals of the 2016 13th Region tournament, the Lady Jackets have high expectations for the remainder of this spring. They hope to once again contend for a district title, and maybe even have a shot at a region crown as well. Leading the way in this effort are three veteran senior players – Sydney Tye, Skyla Oaks...

Williamsburg falls to Middlesboro in All “A” region finals

A Hailey Richardson RBI that brought Kayla Gibson home in the top of the sixth inning was the only run that the Williamsburg Lady Jackets would score in their 11-1 loss to Middlesboro Thursday night in the championship game of this year's 13th Region All "A" Softball Classic. The Lady Jackets defeated OBI and Lynn Camp to earn a spot in the All "A" region finals, but with their loss to Middlesboro they drop to 2-1 on the year. Junior Kelsey Tye pitched the entire game Thursday, striking out three batters. After the game, Williamsburg Head Coach Jason Prewitt said, "We acted really timid. In these situations, we just don't know...

2017 Spring Sports Preview: Corbin Baseball and Softball

Redhounds ready to take the field as defending 50th District champs After a 22-win season and a 50th District championship in 2016, expectations are high for the Corbin Redhounds baseball team this spring. The Hounds graduated a few key players from that district championship squad, but Head Coach Cody Philpot is confident in the overall ability of his returning players. “We lost a really good senior class,” Philpot said. “Getting that district championship was big for those guys, but I actually think the ceiling could be higher for us this year. We are a little bit more athletic throughout the lineup, but at the same time, a lot of those guys...

2017 Spring Sports Preview: Whitley Co Baseball and Softball

Only the 13th Region champion North Laurel Jaguars finished the season with more wins than the Whitley County Colonels in 2016. The Jags recorded a total of 29 victories, while the Colonels recorded 22. 50th District rivals Corbin also had 22 wins on the year, splitting with Whitley, 1-1. When you consider their record, it’s obvious that the Colonels enjoyed a lot of success on the baseball diamond last spring. However, they were still unable to reach their ultimate goal of competing for a 13th Region crown after they suffered a heart breaking loss to South Laurel in the first round of the district tournament. This season, Head Coach Kyle Adams...

2017 Spring Sports Preview: W’burg softball and baseball

Hopkins thinks baseball Jackets have great potential in 2017, excited for new season The Williamsburg Yellow Jackets did not secure a district win during their 2016 campaign, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t highlights. The team got to travel to Florida at the beginning of the season, where they showed Head Coach Bryan Hopkins just how competitive they could be. Once they returned home they went 4-2 with victories over 13th Region opponents Bell County, Barbourville, Lynn Camp and OBI, but that was followed by a 2-11 record between March 22 and April 26. It was a rough stretch, for sure, but the Jackets showed that they had a lot of...

Lynn Camp baseball and softball teams hopeful for success in spring campaigns

High school baseball and softball teams all over Kentucky are officially starting team activities this week. With that in mind, we begin a series of previews taking a look at our local programs, starting now with the Lynn Camp Wildcats and Lady Cats. The Wildcats baseball team was able to put double digits in the win column last season, recording 11 victories, including an 8-4 win over 51st District rivals Pineville. They were unable to make the 13th Region tournament, however, falling to Barbourville 6-4 in the first round of their district tourney. Now, Head Coach Marc Estep is hoping that his team can continue to improve, winning even more games...

She is a graduate of the University of the Cumberlands, where she pitched and played right field for the Patriots from 2008-2012. Coach Dana White, Corbin Lady Hounds host softball skills camp

This past Friday and Saturday Lady Hounds softball Head Coach Dana White hosted her inaugural skills camp at Corbin High School. About 20 girls showed up for the camp, which was not quite the turnout that White was hoping for, but still, she said that she feels like the camp was an overall success. “There were not as many girls as I hoped there would be, but it worked out because they ended up getting more one-on-one instruction,” White explained. “I think they really benefited from having more of that kind of interaction.” Assisting White with the camp was two of her former high school teammates – Kayleigh Walts and Taylor...
