CHS Baseball wins 13th Region, headed to Sweet 16

With a 9-1 victory over the Middlesboro Yellow Jackets this past Saturday, the Corbin Redhounds baseball team became 13th Region champs and punched their collective tickets to this year’s KHSAA state championship tournament in Lexington.

Going into the 2022 13th Region baseball tournament, most fans expected to see a 50th District championship rematch in the finals between the Corbin Redhounds and the Whitley County Colonels. All signs seemed to point to that inevitable matchup after Whitley downed Jackson in the first round and Corbin made easy work of the Knox Central Panthers, but the Colonels were stunned in the tournament semifinals, falling to Middlesboro, 7-3. Meanwhile, the Hounds blanked Clay County, 6-0, setting up an unlikely meeting between them and the Yellow Jackets for this year’s 13th Region crown.
