Corbin Fire Department battles blaze at CTA

Date:

Corbin firefighters spent more than two hours Sunday night battling a blaze in the ventilation system at CTA Acoustics.

Firefighters were paged to the scene in the Southeastern Kentucky Business Park off of the Corbin bypass at 8:12 p.m. in response to the fire alarm activated at the facility.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:18 to find flames coming through the stack out of the north end of the building.

“Everybody was out of the building,” said Corbin Fire Department Battalion Chief Larry Jones.

Firefighters set up the ladder truck to get on top of the fire. A second team of firefighters entered the building with a hose line to attack the fire from the bottom of the vent system.

Jones said firefighters had the flames knocked down within 15 to 20 minutes.

After the flames were knocked down, Jones said CTA officials opened some vents to pull the smoke from the building.

The last firefighters left the scene at 10:42 p.m.
