A Corbin man was arrested last Friday following a traffic stop on Interstate-75 in Laurel County, during which law enforcement reportedly found prescription drugs.
Matthew Storms, 34, is facing charges of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, controlled substances prescriptions not in proper container, driving on a DUI suspended license, speeding – more than 20 miles over the speed limit, no registration plates, and failure to produce insurance card.
In addition, Storms was served with a bench warrant out of Knox County charging him with failure to appear in district court on charges of DUI, endangering with welfare of a minor, and other violations.
Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said deputies initiated a traffic stop approximately two miles north of London after deputies clocked a tan colored Chevrolet Cavalier traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone, which Storms was operating.
When deputies ran Storms’ license, it came back as suspended and they were notified about the outstanding warrant.
“In addition, this subject was found in possession of oxycodone and gabapentin in a clear plastic bag,” Acciardo stated.
Storms was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Facility and released later Friday on a $2,500 surety bond.
Under the terms of a surety bond, the individual does not have to post any money or property, but signs paperwork agreeing to appear in court as required.
Storms is scheduled to be arraigned today in Laurel District Court.
