Corbin Soccer moving on to Elite 8 of state tourney

Date:

As reported in the October 24 print edition of the News Journal, the Corbin Redhounds soccer team hosted Perry County Central Tuesday evening in round one of the 2018 KHSAA state championship tournament.

A goal by freshman Austin Wise off of a corner kick by senior Trey Cima with 8:31 remaining in the game put the Hounds up 1-0, and then a Cima penalty kick about five minutes later gave Corbin the eventual 2-0 victory.

With the win, the Hounds improve to 11-8-1 on the season and advance to the Elite 8 of this year’s state championship tourney. In the quarterfinals they will face St. Xavier (23-2-1), who defeated South Oldham 6-1 Tuesday in their first round contest.

Corbin versus St. X is scheduled to take place at Lafayette High School Lexington this Saturday, October 27 at 3:00 pm.
