A Corbin woman has been accused of being intoxicated while allegedly cutting her daughter with a butcher knife Saturday in Barbourville, according to her arrest citation.
Susan Foley, 60, Berkshire Street in the Knox County portion of Corbin, pled not guilty to charges of first-degree assault and alcohol intoxication during her arraignment Monday in Knox District Court. A June 10 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in her case.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, Foley was being held in the Knox County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond, according to the detention center’s website.
Foley allegedly assaulted the victim about 12:00 a.m. Saturday, according to her arrest citation.
Knox County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jesse Smith was initially dispatched to a report about a verbal dispute at the residence. When he arrived at the scene at N. KY-11, he located Foley standing outside the apartment, Smith wrote on the arrest citation.
Smith could allegedly smell alcoholic beverage coming from Foley, who also had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet. The female victim told Smith that Foley allegedly had gone to the kitchen and retrieved a butcher knife and swung it at her, according to the arrest citation.
The female victim told police that she had grabbed the knife when Foley jerked it away cutting her hand, and that Foley allegedly continued cutting her hand, Smith wrote on the arrest citation.
Knox County EMS had to take the victim to Appalachian Regional Hospital.
Smith arrested Foley at 5:56 p.m. Saturday and lodged her in the Knox County Detention.
