A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Cumberland Mint gaming hall is planned for Tuesday afternoon in Williamsburg.
The Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce announced late Thursday afternoon that the groundbreaking will take place at 1:30 p.m. at 244 Penny Lane in Williamsburg, which is located behind Dairy Queen.
The 54,100 square-foot facility is expected to bring in 2,500 visitors per day, and is projected to open in July or August 2022. Construction of an adjacent hotel is expected to take place within about 18 months of the facility’s opening.
The project also includes construction of 1,500 parking spaces.
The Williamsburg facility is being built in conjunction with the Cumberland Run harness racing track that will be constructed in Corbin. So far there is no groundbreaking date scheduled for that project.
The projects are a joint effort between Keeneland and Kentucky Downs.
Aside from Tractor Supply, Dairy Queen and the Whitley County Health Department, Kentucky Downs-Keeneland apparently now own the remainder of the property off Penny Lane.
