University of the Cumberlands recently hosted its annual math contest for local high schools. Nine area high schools and one middle school participated in this year’s event, bringing 121 students to campus. Fifty-three undergraduate volunteers worked alongside faculty to ensure the day ran smoothly for all involved.

Local winners of the annual math contest at Cumberlands are as follows:
Corbin High School
- Algebra II – Second Place: Amelia Jones
- Pre-Calculus – Second Place: Kolby Ball
- Physics – Second Place: Hudson Coe; Third Place: Zachariah Risner
Whitley County High School
- Algebra I – First Place: Skyler Nichols
- Algebra II – Third Place: Jonna Rice
- Cooperative Group – Fourth Place: Tucker Hale, Brileigh Logan, Noah Meadors, and Jacob (DK) Ridener
East Bernstadt Independent School
- Algebra I – Third Place: Kennedy Scott
South Laurel High School
- Pre-Calculus – Fourth Place: Jacob Field
- Cooperative Group – Fifth Place: Tim Barnes, Kaiden Irvin, Peyton Morhmann, and Will Wagers
North Laurel High School
- Algebra I – Fourth Place: Jasmine Shen
- Algebra II – First Place: Lila Oster
- Geometry – First Place: Addison Pitman; Fourth Place: Qasim Sroya
- Pre-Calculus – Third Place: Addison Metcalf
- Calculus – Third Place: Matthew Cochrane
- Physics – Fourth Place: Jaren Overbey; Fifth Place: Tucker Hamilton
- Cooperative Group – Second Place: Ben Baker, Avy Grigsby, Danaka Tincher, and Raymond Wang
North Laurel High School took first place overall in the competition.
