Elsie Ruth (Shaw) Shelby, age 98, of Rockholds, KY passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at home. She was born April 11, 1927, in Duff, TN.
Elsie was a member of the Tannery Hollow Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
Elsie is preceded in death by husband, John Rufus Shelby, Jr.; son, Bennett “Benny” Shelby; son-in-law, Larry Jackson; father, John Franklin Shaw; mother, Laura Della (Ellis) Shaw; brothers, Conol, Kenneth, Ottis, Gene, Lewis and J.H. Shaw; sisters, Dorothy Shaw, Mickey Collins, Cleda Shaw, and Alma Jane Cordova.
She is survived by daughter, Benita Ruth (Shelby) Jackson of Rockholds, KY; son, John Bryan Shelby and wife Linda of Williamsburg, KY; grandchildren, Kimberly, Marty, Ryan, Noah, Michelle and Brian; several great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm Wednesday, March 4 at Tannery Hollow Baptist Church with funeral services at 2 pm with Rev. Lester Cox and Rev. Jared Potter officiating. The church is located at 649 Maple St. Jellico, TN.
Burial will follow in Jellico Cemetery.
