After fending off five opponents in the May Primary Election to secure the Republican nomination for Third-District Constable, Jordan Davis probably thought he had smooth sailing to win the office in the November General Election as there was no Democrat on any independents in his race.
However, a few weeks before the November General Election that changed when incumbent Third-District Constable Jim Thornton, who had unsuccessfully ran for sheriff in May finishing a competitive third in the race, decided to run as a write-in candidate for Third-District Constable.
This created an interesting question, which was could a write-in candidate win an election in Whitley County when no one else is ever known to have done so in the past?
Third-District voters gave their answer to that question Tuesday as Davis beat Thornton by a vote of 1,174 to 777 to win his first term as Third-District Constable.
