Deputies charge two with methamphetamine, cocaine possession

Date:

A Corbin man and a Woodbine man are behind bars in the Whitley County Detention Center after being arrested late Wednesday night on drug possession charges.

About 10 p.m., Whitley County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jonas Saunders and Deputy Chad Foley responded to a suspicious person complaint in the Woodbine area, according to a sheriff’s department release.

Following a thorough investigation, the deputies arrested Gene Dewayne Turner, 32, and Johnny Wayne Ball, 49, charging them with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first-degree of a controlled substance (cocaine), possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified) and possession of marijuana.

Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center, and entered not guilty pleas to their charges during their arraignments Thursday afternoon in Whitley District Court.

Judge Fred White scheduled April 30 preliminary hearings for the pair, and set a $7,500 cash bond for each defendant.

White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Turner.
