Fine Arts Association presenting classical pianist Yukiko Fujimura at Union College on November 12

The Fine Arts Association of Southeast Kentucky will be presenting classical pianist Yukiko Fujimura in concert at the Conway-Boatman Memorial Chapel at Union College in Barbourville on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.

A native of Kanagawa, Japan, Yukiko Fujimura actively plays recitals of solo and chamber music, as well as concerti with orchestra.

The recipient of numerous awards and honors, Fujimura was named prize winner of Stanislaw Moniuszko International Competition of Slavic Music, the Yokosuka International Piano Competition, the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Performance competition in Wisconsin, Schubert Club Competition, the Ball State University Graduate Concerto Competition, and Slavic Music Competition for Piano and Orchestra.

Fujimura holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from Ball State University. She has also received guidance from prominent pianists Noel Flores, Pavel Gililov, Ian Hobson, Alexandre Dossin, and Dina Yoffe. During her academic career, Fujimura recorded a two-CD set of Samuel Barber’s Complete Works for Solo Piano, the first recording to include the composer’s recently published early works.

Fujimura is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at Union College, and President-Elect for the Kentucky Music Teachers Association. Her innovative approach to teaching has garnered invitations to present at national and international conferences including the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the International Society for Music Educators (ISME).

Tickets will be $10 at the door, with members being admitted free. University of the Cumberlands and Union College students will also be admitted free with a valid ID.
