After round one playoff games on Thursday and Friday, two coverage area high school football teams are left standing.
On Thursday, both the Whitley County Colonels and the Lynn Camp Wildcats saw their 2023 campaigns come to a close with a pair of losses on the road. The Colonels traveled to Boyle County, falling to the defending Class 4A state champion Rebels by the final score of 41-6. Meanwhile, the Wildcats fell to Middlesboro in the first round of the Class A playoffs, 51-8.
Whitley County went 5-6 this season, losing in their last four outings. Lynn Camp finished with a 2-9 record, losing eight straight after a Sept. 1 victory over visiting Knott County Central.
On Friday, the Corbin Redhounds and the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets both advanced to round two of the 2023 high school football postseason with a pair of lopsided wins in front of enthusiastic home crowds.
The Redhounds remained undefeated on the year with a 63-0 shutout victory over the Wayne County Cardinals in Class 4A action, while the Jackets defeated the Hazard Bulldogs by the final score of 60-12 in this year’s 1A bracket.
Corbin will host Taylor County (9-2) in round two next week as Williamsburg goes on the road to face the defending 1A state champion Pikeville Panthers (8-2).
