Friday Night Highlights: Oct. 4, 2024

It was a night of major victories for coverage area high school football teams.

In their first game since Sept. 13, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets traveled to Pineville Friday to open up district play against the winless Mountain Lions. The Jackets made sure that their opponents remained without a win, dominating with a 48-0 shutout victory.

Williamsburg, now 3-1 on the year, will travel again next Friday, Oct. 11, to face the Lynn Camp Wildcats (3-2), who were on bye this week.

In other week 7 high school football action, the Whitley County Colonels sent the home crowd happy on Homecoming Night, defeating visiting Scott, Tenn., 56-32. The Colonels (3-3) will host a district matchup next week against Perry County Central.

Finally, the Corbin Redhounds faced a tough test on the road Friday, traveling to play the Golden Eagles of Johnson Central in a matchup between two of the state’s top teams in Class 4A. It was a battle to the end, but the Hounds managed to pull out the 56-51 win to improve to 5-1 on the year.

Next week, Corbin will be back at home as they open district play against the visiting Letcher County Central Cougars.
