Competition among district opponents highlighted the high school football action this week for coverage area teams.

The Corbin Redhounds went on the road for the first time since Sept. 12 to open up district play against the Harlan County Black Bears. The Hounds made easy work of the Bears, cruising to a 53-6 victory to improve to 4-3 on the season. They will be back at Campbell Field next week to host Whitley County for Homecoming night.

Speaking of the Colonels, they were also on the road in week 8, traveling to Perry County Central to face their first district opposition this season. Unfortunately, they were unable to break their current losing streak, which now stands at six games after the Commodores walked away victorious, 42-6.

Finally, the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets continue to be on the rise after defeating visiting Lynn Camp, 46-14. The win improves them to 4-2 overall, and they stand at a perfect 2-0 in the district. The Wildcats, meanwhile, fall to 3-3, 0-2.

Class A district competition continues next week as Williamsburg travels to Middlesboro and Lynn Camp hosts Harlan Independent. For additional details, see the Oct. 15 print edition of the News Journal.
