Hidden meth found in contact lens solution bottle at Whitley Jail

Date:

Four people are being charged in connection with a plot to smuggle methamphetamine into the Whitley County Detention Center.
About 1 p.m. Friday, Chief Deputy Jailer Jerry Allen Taylor contacted Williamsburg police in reference to two grams of suspected methamphetamine, which was found inside a plastic bag and had been smuggled into the jail inside a four-ounce bottle of Equate contact lens solution, according to Williamsburg Police Detective Wayne Bird’s report.
Taylor admits this was a “pretty unique” method used to try and smuggle drugs in the jail. He said he put deputy jailers on alert for the bottle after receiving information from informants.
Williamsburg Police Officers Jason Caddell and Tresa Gray responded to the jail.
Caddell’s field test of the powder indicated that it was methamphetamine.
Angela Lee, who allegedly dropped off the eye solution at the jail, was taken into custody by Gray and Caddell, according to police reports.
After being read her rights, Lee told police that the bottle was purchased by Paul Robinson at the Corbin Wal-Mart the night before, and Robinson and her sister, Donielle Robinson, told her to bring the solution to the jail, according to the report. Paul Robinson is Donielle Robinson’s husband.
“Lee stated the bottle was intended for her sister, Donielle Robinson and Tara Jackson, who were in the same cell together. Lee denied any knowledge of the bottle’s contents,” the report stated.
Police charged Lee, 23, Donielle Robinson, 27, and Jackson, 27, also known as Tara Hackworth, all of Corbin, with first-degree promoting contraband.
At the time of the most recent charges, Donielle Robinson was being held on a methamphetamine manufacturing charge, according to jail officials.
A Dec. 6 preliminary hearing has been scheduled in district court.
Police also obtained an arrest warrant for Paul Robinson, 30, charging him with first-degree promoting contraband.
Deputy jailers Bobby West and Harold Douglas also assisted in the investigation.
