Johnson recognized by Whitley BOE

Date:

The Whitley County Board of Education met for the Feb. 17 meeting to recognize the district’s Above and Beyond recipient for this month.

The Above and Beyond Award is presented monthly to district educational staff who go beyond their job requirements.

Superintendent John Siler presented this month’s Above and Beyond award to Boston Elementary sixth grade teacher Chris Johnson, nominated by Principal Jordan McCumbers, for his consistent dedication, leadership, and professionalism.

“After many successful years as a fifth-grade teacher, Chris willingly transitioned to sixth grade to help strengthen instruction,” Siler read. “[He placed] the needs of students in a school above personal comfort.”

Johnson also assumed leadership of the academic team and remains an active member of the site-based decision-making council. He helps with after school clubs and oversees school detention.

“I will tell you all that Mr. Johnson is a master teacher down there at Boston Elementary,” said Siler.
