Laurel grand jury indicts man accused of shooting another person during recent road rage incident

Date:

A London man accused of shooting another person during a road rage incident last month has been indicted by a Laurel County grand jury.

Joseph Caden Brewer, 21, was named in a single-count indictment on Aug. 16 on a charge of first-degree assault.

The incident occurred July 6 along KY80 when Brewer allegedly became distraught at another motorist in a vehicle behind him. Brewer allegedly got out of his vehicle and began cursing at the other driver when a man in another vehicle, identified as Jayden Jackson, got out of his vehicle to see what was going on.

According to a release from the Laurel County Sherriff’s Department, Brewer shot Jackson twice in the torso immediately upon Jackson getting out of his vehicle. \

A bystander initially attempted to transport Jackson to the hospital, though Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County took over and was able to get Jackson to St. Joseph London. He was later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Brewer was arrested and jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Facility, where he currently remains in lieu of a $150,000 cash bond.

An indictment is a formal charge by a grand jury; it is not a conviction or an admission of guilt.
