Leigh Burke indicted for second time

Date:

Former Whitley County School District Chief Financial Officer Leigh Burke was indicted for a second time Monday morning. This time in connection with a theft from the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials (KASBO).

A former chief financial officer for the Whitley County school district, who was fired in June amid allegations of misappropriation of school funds, got some bad news and some good news in regards to her legal situation Monday.

The bad news for Leigh Burke, 55, of Williamsburg, was that a Whitley County Grand Jury had indicted her for theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 but less than $1 million, and for three counts of second-degree forgery in regard to allegedly stealing over $26,000 from the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials (KASBO).

The good news for Burke Monday afternoon was Whitley Circuit Judge Paul Winchester agreed to modify her bond conditions in a prior theft case involving the school district so that she can live in Florida with her fiancé, who wasn’t identified in court, and work there at a new job that pays $20 per hour.
