Lena Emma Douglas, age 89, of Farmersville, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at Miami Valley Hospital on Thursday, June 22, 2023.
She was born on March 18, 1934 to the late Thomas T. Tye and Charity (Lawson) Tye.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Douglas; siblings, John S. Tye, Stella Lee Van Gelder, Anna Mae Smith, Jessie Marie Carroll, J.C. Tye, William “Bill” Tye, Wyoma “Onie” Cymbal, Berla Fay Lopez, and Kenneth “Ray” Tye.
Lena is survived by her son, Gary L. Douglas and wife Kimberly A. Douglas; granddaughters, Deedra L. Collins and husband Michael Collins, and Erica A. Davidson; grandson, Landon K. Pauley and wife, Kandice Kerr Pauley; great grandchildren, Taylor A. Clark, Grant M. Collins, Maycie B. Davidson, Hannah G. Collins, Brayden S. Davidson, Aaron Collins, Jayne Collins, Carsyn A. Davidson, Charlotte Collins, Addisyn Collins, Vivian Collins, Lucy Collins, Carter Pauley, and Layna Pauley; great-great-grandsons, Liam and Aiden Nguyen; and great-niece and nephew, Jon and Jessica Love.
Lena earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. She was actually teaching school by the age of 17. Lena started her teaching career at the Boston, KY, Saxton, KY and Mud Creek, KY schools. One of which was a one room school house.
Moving to Ohio in 1961, Lena taught in the Goshen, Ohio school system until 1970. She then moved and taught the 6th grade at New Lebanon Local Schools until retiring in 1995. Lena taught 41 ½ years and was loved by her students. It was definitely her calling in life. Not only was Lena a school teacher, she was used by God to be a light for Him through all who knew her by teaching, living, and spreading God’s love wherever she went and with whoever she met. She is leaving behind a legacy of family and friends who were all touched and inspired by her wonderful, loving, caring spirit, given to her by God. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm with funeral service to begin at 1:00pm on Thursday, June 29th at Rogers Funeral Home New Lebanon. Pastor Terry Smith officiating.
