Police responding to a complaint of a man making lewd gestures to a woman in the parking lot of McDonald’s on Masters Street Monday night, led to a vehicle pursuit that ended with a damaged police cruiser and the suspect treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Phillip S. Richardson, 47, was arrested by Corbin Police following the 18-mile chase that ended when he wrecked his 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck on Dorothy Road off of American Greeting Card Road in North Corbin.
According to Corbin Police Public Affairs Officer Major Rob Jones, police were called to the McDonald’s when the woman ran into the store and asked employees to call police about Richardson.
When officers tried to speak with Richardson, who was sitting in his 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck in the drive-thru lane, he became irate and drove off, trying to hit officers Kirk Mays and Mike Nunley in the process.
Officers chased after him, ending the pursuit when Richardson wrecked his truck. Richardson, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center for treatment He was released to the custody of police Tuesday morning and taken to the Knox County Detenton Center.
He has been charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs – second offense, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief and two counts of attempted assault on a police officer.
