Lincoln County crash kills W’burg man Saturday morning

Date:

A Saturday morning traffic crash in Lincoln County claimed the life of a Whitley County man.

The Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum pronounced Donnie Rains, 40, of Williamsburg, dead at the scene, according to published reports and a release from Kentucky State Police at the Richmond Post.

Kentucky State Police report that the crash happened shortly before 7:30 a.m. on John Sims Highway.

State police determined through their investigation that a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was driven by Rains, was traveling north when it crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrex, which was driven by Brett Smith, 46, of Crab Orchard, according to the release and published reports.

Smith was taken to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Tyler Holt is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by other KSP personnel, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln County EMS, Lincoln County Fire Department and Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
