UPDATE: Two men have been arrested in connection to an alleged road rage incident Friday afternoon near Exit 29 in Corbin that ended with one of the two men reportedly discharging a firearm.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Adams Road and KY770 between Love’s Travel Stop and Sonny’s BBQ. According to a release from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department, Jacob Harness, 26, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was stopped in traffic on Adams Road when he exited his vehicle and began arguing with another motorist in a tractor-trailer behind him. The altercation quickly became physical, with Harness allegedly grabbing the other motorist by the shirt and throwing them to the ground.
During the altercation, an individual in another vehicle stopped in traffic directly in front of Harness’ vehicle got out and allegedly retrieved a pistol. That individual, identified as James Harness, 53, of Sardinia, Ohio, allegedly fired numerous shots in the vicinity of the altercation.
The release noted that there were other individuals not involved in the incident also nearby when the shots were fired.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Nate Bishop was investigating a nearby traffic crash at the time the incident occurred and quickly arrived at the scene, using verbal commands to disarm James Harness, according to the release.
Bishop was able to take both men into custody.
Jacob Harness has been charged with fourth-degree assault. James Harness has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and second-degree disorderly conduct. Both men have been jailed in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was not identified in the release, did not receive any serious injuries during the altercation and no other injuries were reported.
ORIGINAL STORY: The details surrounding a video circulating Facebook depicting a physical altercation followed what is believed to be gunshots that took place sometime Friday afternoon near Exit 29 in Corbin are currently unknown, though the News Journal is endeavoring to learn what took place.
In the video, traffic can be seen stopped near the Love’s Travel Stop and people outside of their vehicles. One individual is reaching into the hatchback area of a vehicle and then two others close in on one another and fall to the ground. Immediately after, what sounds like several gunshots ring out before the video ends.
Some comments on the video claim the person reaching into hatchback had a gun and fired several rounds into the ground.
