Oct. 28 dedication planned for CHS Athletic Commons

Date:

An Oct. 28 dedication ceremony is planned for the newly built Corbin High School Athletic Commons.

There will be an open house at the Athletic Commons starting at 4:30 p.m. that day and the dedication ceremony for the new facility will take place at 5:30 p.m.

The commons is a facility for tennis, softball, cross country and track and field that includes storage space, a concession stand and locker rooms for teams.

Superintendent Dave Cox noted that athletes in many of these sports didn’t have dedicated locker rooms and so forth prior to the construction of this facility, and instead had to wear their uniforms to the games or matches or go to the locker room in another building in order to change.

The commons also includes an observation tower for tennis.

“Like most places our courts are kind of separated with three on top and three on the bottom level. Coaches are always running back and forth trying to watch. This board had a great idea and decided to put in an observation tower that sits well above both tennis courts. It has glass all the way around with a 360 degree view. Coaches can go up there and literally watch all six matches at the same time,” Cox said.
