Police think Mr. Gatti’s break-in may be an inside job

Date:

Corbin Police say the man who broke into Mr. Gatti’s Pizza Thursday morning may be a current or former employee.

“He would have had to known the layout of the store,” said Corbin Police Detective Rusty Hedrick who is investigating the burglary.

Hedrick said the man made entry into the business at Corbin Station about 4:30 a.m. through a back door that leads into a generator room. Video surveillance from neighboring business showed him going inside, but provided no details as to how he got the door open.

Once inside, Hedrick said the individual went up through the ceiling tiles and came back down and into the office.

The burglar took an undisclosed amount of cash from the store safe and then exited the store via the same route.

“We are not sure if the closing manager had failed to secure the safe,” Hedrick said, noting there was no sign of force entry into the safe.

Hedrick said the burglar was in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes.

Police have begun questioning current employees and at least one former employee about the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Corbin Police at 528-1122.
