The process to remove the traffic light at Roy Kidd Avenue and Depot Street will begin Wednesday, April 1, as the existing traffic signal will be placed on flash red in all directions and stop signs will be installed at the intersection, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet release.
In November 2025, the Corbin City Commission voted to request the transportation cabinet remove the Roy Kidd Avenue and Laurel Avenue light.
As part of the removal process, a traffic study will be done at the intersection.
Motorists should treat the intersection as an all-way stop, as indicated by posted signage, for the duration of the 45-day study. This traffic pattern may remain in place permanently if the signal is ultimately removed.
Drivers are urged to come to a complete stop before proceeding, yield to other vehicles as required and use caution and remain alert for changes in traffic patterns.
Motorists should expect delays, use caution while traveling through the work zone, and be alert for workers and equipment.
While the city commission opted to seek the removal of the Roy Kidd Avenue and Depot Street traffic light, they opted to keep the Roy Kidd Avenue and Depot Street traffic light at the underpass although they were required to pay $26,600 for the aging light to be replaced. The replacement took place last week.
