A routine traffic stop Sunday event resulted in the discovery of approximately two grams of crystal methamphetamine.
Third-District Constable Dorman Patrick Jr. arrested Dylan James Bell, 19, of Williamsburg, about 9:37 p.m. charging him with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, no brake lights, no/expired registration plates, failure to produce an insurance card and operating on a suspended/revoked operator’s license.
The incident started when Patrick observed a 2007 blue Chevy Malibu traveling on Highway 92E with no tail or brake lights and conducted a traffic stop about four miles east of Williamsburg near Lowell Thomas Road, according to an arrest citation.
A registration check revealed that the wrong tag was on the vehicle and the actual tag was expired, the citation stated.
Bell appeared to be nervous and was asked to exit the vehicle, Patrick wrote.
Patrick received permission to search the vehicle and discovered a white, crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine located inside a black safe in the trunk of the vehicle, the citation alleged.
Patrick also located two sets of digital scales inside the safe.
Patrick also served Bell with an arrest warrant out of Whitley County for failure to appear in court.
Bell was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond, according to the detention center’s website.
