Rumors about Williamsburg school ‘hit list’ unfounded

Date:

Williamsburg police and Williamsburg Independent School District officials have confirmed that a rumor regarding a threat at the school and a ‘hit list’ Friday are false.

“The Williamsburg Police Department has received information concerning a rumor, that is circulating about a threat made toward Williamsburg Independent School. The rumor specifically involved what is being referred to as a ‘hit list’. These claims are completely FALSE and UNFOUNDED. At no time did Williamsburg Independent School receive such a threat,” according to a Williamsburg Police Department release.

The school administration immediately contacted the school Safety Resource Officers (SRO’s) assigned to the school by the Williamsburg Police Department when they became aware of the rumor, and an investigation began, according to a school district release.

“That investigation by our SRO’s and school administration revealed that the ‘hit list’ did not exist and there was never a threat to the safety of our students. One of the four commitments in the vision of the Williamsburg Independent Schools is School Safety and we will continue to be vigilant in providing a safe place for our students to achieve academic excellence,” the release stated.
