Verna Lee Bruce

Verna Lee Bruce, age 90, of Corbin, Ky., passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025 at Baptist Health Corbin.
She loved the Lord and had actively served in both Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and Corbin Full Gospel Church of God. She was a retired librarian in the Boone County School System. She was born February 16, 1935 in Corbin, Ky. to the late William A. and Marie McKeehan Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Verneda Sturgill (Robert), Verldon K. Smith (Billie), and Vernon “Toby” Smith; and her first husband, Ralph Hickey, to whom she was married 25 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, Edward Bruce; his children, Gary (Vicki) Bruce, Alisa (Lenard) Smith; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Wardelle Smith and Helen Bradley; a niece, Sandy (Gary) McInturf; three nephews, Randall Smith, Michael Smith and Darwin (Cathy) Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral service was Thursday, August 21, at Ellison Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terrell Bradley and Rev. Jerome Cox officiating.
Interment followed in Sutton-Pemberton Cemetery.
