VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC

Date:

The Whitley County High School Volleyball team and First Priority will host the first Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic this week at WCHS.

Ten teams in two five-team pools will take the floor Friday night. Whitley County will host Pool A at the high school gym while the Pool B teams play at Whitley County Middle School.

In Pool A will be the Lady Colonels, Jellico High School, South Laurel, Bell County and Lincoln County.

Pool B will feature defending 13th region champion, Corbin, along with Middlesboro, North Laurel, Knox Central and Campbell County, Tn.

“We are really looking forward to hosting the 1st Annual First Priority Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic,” Whitley County Volleyball Coach David Halcomb said.

“We have a very competitive field of teams entered and there are several teams I believe can win the championship if they gain some momentum.  This very well could be a preview of the 13th Region tourney coming up in October.”

“First Priority is a great Christian organization and they have lots of neat things planned for the participating student-athletes, Halcomb said.  “We hope to have good crowds to come out and watch the event, and I’m sure they will get to see some outstanding volleyball action.”

Pool games will be played to 21 points with a cap of 23. If a third game is necessary it will be played to 15. Games will be the best of three.

Whitley County will play at Bell County and South Laurel Friday night and Jellico and Lincoln County Saturday morning.

Corbin will play Middlesboro and Campbell County Friday and North Laurel and Knox Central Saturday.

After pool play is completed the games will be seeded in single elimnation bracket, beginning at 3 p.m. The championship game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
