Those looking for something to get them in the holiday mood are in luck, as the Williamsburg Community Choir has just the thing for you.
The community choir, which was formed earlier this fall, will perform their first public concert on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at the Lane Theater in downtown Williamsburg. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and is free to the public, though donations are accepted. All donations will go to support the community choir.
Concessions will also be available during the concert and all proceeds from those sales will go to benefit restoration efforts for the theater.
The choir’s director Jonathan Wyatt, who also serves as both the main street manager for the City of Williamsburg and music teacher/choir director at Williamsburg Independent School, said that he was thrilled at having the opportunity to be able to hold the first concert at the Lane Theater since it closed decades ago.
“We are excited because we get to bring the community together for the Christmas season, but also bring life to music back in our community,” said Wyatt.
The concert will feature a variety of both sacred and secular classic Christmas tunes, including “Silent Night” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” according to Wyatt.
Additionally, the choir is still looking for members who are interested in joining. Wyatt said that the choir currently has approximately 20 members of varying ages and that anyone is welcome to join. A spring concert is being planned for sometime next year.
