Whitley Cattleman’s Association holds annual Christmas Dinner

Date:

On Dec. 20, the Whitley County Cattlemen’s Association held its annual Christmas Dinner in the Whitley County High School cafeteria.

The WCHS Future Farmers of America chapter hosted and conducted their opening ceremony to kickoff the event. The Cattlemen’s Association has been a longtime supporter of the Whitley County FFA, and enjoyed watching as the officers demonstrated their leadership skills.

Leslie Monhollen, Kentucky FFA State Sentinel, brought greetings from the state organization and expressed her happiness at being home. In addition to being a 2022 graduate of WCHS, she also recieved a WCCA scholarship, something she said she is very thankful for as she pursues a degree in agriculture education.

Kentucky FFA has twelve officers, and as one of those officers Monhollen travels the state and represents the 20,000 KY FFA members. She attends events and conventions related to agriculture education, and visits with the schools that are from the Kentucky River Region.

As Kentucky FFA Sentinel, she focuses on their mission statement of Premier Leadership, Personal Growth and Career Success. They achieve this by hosting various competitions and workshops for students all across the state of Kentucky.

WCCA President Garrett Croley concluded the evening’s activities by recognizing the members that had worked the WCCA fundraising booth during the past year.

Mr. Verlin Marsee was recognized as the member with the most shifts worked. Funds raised at various events, such as NIBROC in Corbin and Old Fashioned Trading Days in Williamsburg, are used to support not only member activities, but also both Williamsburg and Whitley County FFA Chapters, especially their leadership training conferences.

President Croley thanked all members for their hard work during the past year, all involved in preparing the meal, and the band Tidal Wave Road for providing entertainment.
