Whitley County school district students will return to class this fall on Aug. 10, 2022, with a projected last day of school on May 10, 2023.
In addition, there will be a full fall break, a three-day Thanksgiving break, a two-week Christmas break, and one full week of spring break in the 2022-2023 school calendar. The calendar will include 170 days of instruction.
“It is almost identical to what we had this year,” Director of Pupil Personnel Patrick Bowlin told the Whitley County Board of Education during its March 17 monthly meeting. “It would allow us plenty of time for our summer programming.”
The board voted unanimously to approve the proposed school calendar.
Also, the board recognized members of the Whitley County High School Academic Team. In league play, the team was 6-1 for the season.
At the District Kentucky Association for Academic Competition (KAAC) Governor’s Cup competition, which was held on Jan. 22, the team was district runner-up.
The quick recall team won second place overall and advanced to the regional competition.
The following students placed in their individual assessments and advanced to the regional competition.
- Language arts – second place Luke Baker and third place Allison Hughes.
- Social studies – second place Gavin Whitaker, fourth-place Isaiah Jones, and fifth place Andrea Dees.
- Arts and humanities – fourth place Brileigh Logan and fifth place Maranda Carr.
- Math – third place Sam Hudson and fourth place Jackson Leskiw.
- Composition – first place Maranda Carr and fifth place Andrea Dees.
At the Regional KAAC Governor’s Cup competition the team placed third overall and the quick recall team placed fourth out of 12 teams.
Carr placed second in arts and humanities and fifth in composition.
Baker placed third in language arts.
Hudson placed second in math.
Carr, Baker and Hudson all advanced to the state KAAC Governor’s Cup competition in Louisville.
In other business, the board presented Boston Elementary School Custodian Zyndle Lawson with the March Above and Beyond Award.
