Williamsburg hosting May 7 blood drive

Date:

Kentucky donors save Kentucky lives, but Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) needs more donors to continue the lifesaving mission, and local residents will get the chance to give during a blood drive in Williamsburg next week.

Whole blood donations only take about 45 minutes to an hour from registration to refreshment and can save up to three local lives. The collection process only takes approximately 10 minutes.

Those who give blood at this upcoming drive will receive a blue “Kentucky Donor” T-shirt (while supplies last) as a thank you for their gift of life.

The Kentucky Blood Center Bloodmobile will be at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center on Wednesday (May 7) from 9:30 a.m. – noon. The Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center is located at 650 S. 10th Street.

Donating blood is critical to maintaining a healthy blood supply as blood cannot be manufactured. The only way to provide lifesaving blood products for patients at more than 70 hospitals in Kentucky is through the generosity of donors.

Statistics show that one in four people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime, and that one in seven people admitted to a hospital receive blood.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.

Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call (800) 775-2522.

KBC is the largest independent, full-service, nonprofit blood center in Kentucky, and has been saving local lives since 1968. KBC provides services in 90 Kentucky counties and has donor centers in Lexington, Louisville, Frankfort, Pikeville, Somerset and the Tri-County area (Corbin).
