According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s department, the deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Eric Hone, who was the driver of one of the two vehicles involved.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Hone was traveling south on Ky. 363 approximately four miles south of London in a Nissan Rogue SUV.

Acciardo said that, according to investigators with the sheriff’s department, Hone rounded a sharp curve, crossed into the northbound lane and struck a Nissan Titan pickup truck, head on.

Hone was transported from the scene to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hone was the only occupant of the SUV.

The pickup truck was operated by Clayton Thomas, 29, of London.

Acciardo said Thomas was taken to a local hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.

A passenger in the pickup, whom Acciardo identified as Elizabeth Thomas, 35, of London, was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of multiple injuries.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstructionist/Deputy Brad Mink conducted the investigation.

He was assisted at the scene by Deputy Allen Turner and Deputy Jamie Etherton.

Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London-Laurel County Rescue Squad, and Laurel County Fire Department also responded to the scene.
