UPDATE: Williamsburg man wanted in fatal shooting arrested early Friday morning

A Williamsburg man wanted for a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday in Whitley County has been arrested.

Martin A. Canada, 48, was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police early Friday morning. Online jail records show Canada was jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center just before 3 a.m.

Canada faces a murder charge in connection to the incident, in which he allegedly shot Kyle W. Chadwell, 31, of Williamsburg, during an altercation at a Patrick Hollow Rd. residence. Chadwell was taken to Baptist Health Corbin, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Canada is scheduled to appear in Whitley District Court for arraignment on Tuesday at 10 a.m. He currently remains jailed in the Whitley County Detention Center under a $250,000 cash bond.

ORIGINAL STORY: Kentucky State Police are searching for a Williamsburg man following a fatal shooting that took place Wednesday night in Whitley County.

According to a KSP press release, the shooting took place at approximately 11:45 p.m. at a home on Patrick Hollow Rd. after a physical altercation broke out between two men at the residence. During the altercation, Martin A. Canada, 48, allegedly shot Kyle W. Chadwell, 31, of Williamsburg.

Whitley County EMS responded to the scene, transporting Chadwell to Baptist Health Corbin with severe injuries. Chadwell was later pronounced deceased at the hospital by the Whitley County Coroner’s office. Chadwell’s body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

KSP Post 11 is still actively searching for Canada and a warrant has been obtained for his arrest on a charge of murder. If anyone has any information regarding Canada’s whereabouts, they are asked to contact Post 11 at (606) 878-6622 or by calling 911.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Also assisting KSP at the scene was the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and Williamsburg Police Department.
