Somebody from this area may be $500,000 richer and not even know it.
The Saturday, Oct. 12, Powerball® drawing produced a $500,000 winning Powerball® Double Play ticket sold at a Corbin retailer.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Pilot Travel Center, which is located at 249 West Cumberland Gap Parkway.
The winning ticket matched all five white balls but not the Powerball® in the second Double Play drawing, winning the second-tier Double Play prize of $500,000.
The Double Play drawing takes place immediately after the Powerball drawing. Saturday night’s winning Powerball Double Play numbers were 18 – 22 – 32 – 41 – 49 Powerball 24.
The Kentucky Lottery added the Double Play feature for players at retail stores in November 2023. It became available for purchase online earlier this year.
“The Kentucky Lottery is always looking for new and exciting ways to engage our loyal players,” said Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Mary Harville. “Adding Double Play as an option to Powerball has really paid off for our players, with Kentucky retailers now selling two high-tier winning Powerball Double Play winning tickets less than a year since we added this feature.”
The Kentucky Lottery made history in June 2024 when it became just the third state to sell a $10 million top-tier Powerball Double Play ticket since 2001 when the feature was added to the game by Powerball officials. A Kentucky resident, who wished to remain anonymous, came forward in August with the winning $10 million Powerball Double Play ticket from the June 24, 2024 drawing.
The $10 million winning ticket was purchased at Circle K off Hwy. 22 in Crestwood, Ky. The store received its $100,000 selling bonus from the Kentucky Lottery on Aug. 8.
Double Play is an add-on option to the game’s base $2 wager. For an additional $1 wager – when players buy their Powerball ticket – Double Play enters a player’s same set of numbers in both drawings.
There was no winner of the Powerball® jackpot during the most recent drawing Monday. The jackpot for the Oct. 16 drawing is currently estimated at $408 million.
The Kentucky Lottery advises the winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep them in a secure location, and claim their prize within 180 days from the date of the drawing.
Winners must claim their prizes at lottery headquarters, which is located at 1011 W. Main St. in Louisville. Winners should contact the lottery at 1-877-789-4532 to make an appointment to claim their prize.
Since 1999, more than $5 billion in Kentucky Lottery proceeds have funded college scholarships and grants for Kentucky college students. In 2024, the Kentucky Lottery paid out more than $1.5 billion in prizes.
