93-year-old man killed in weekend crash in Gray community of Knox Co.

Date:

A Saturday evening vehicle crash in Gray claimed the life of a 93-year-old.

About 6:30 p.m., Kentucky State Police (KSP) from Post 10 in Harlan received a call from Knox County 911 Dispatch regarding a two-vehicle collision on US25E near the 4 Lane Auto Sales building.

The preliminary investigation indicated that a Kenworth tractor-trailer crossed the southbound lane of travel and stopped in the median in an attempt to merge into the northbound lane. A Toyota Prius traveling southbound subsequently collided with the driver’s side of the trailer, which was blocking the southbound lane, according to a KSP release.

Knox County EMS transported the operator of the Prius, Crit Moses, 93. He was later airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with critical injuries.

The next day on Dec. 21, state police received confirmation that Moses succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by a Fayette County Deputy Coroner.

KSP Detective Jake Middleton is continuing the investigation. He was assisted at the scene by Troopers Josh Jones, John Hoskins and Ben Meadows, and other first responders from multiple agencies.

On Dec. 22, KSP shutdown the southbound lanes at 9555 N US25E at the scene of the fatal collision to conduct accident reconstruction.

West Knox and Bailey Switch Volunteer Fire Departments rerouted traffic onto KY 1232 during the reconstruction.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Knox Funeral Home in Barbourville.
