Gary Woodrow Elliott, age 76, of Corbin, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Baptist Health Corbin.
Born in Corbin, he was the son of the late Woodrow Elliott and Ruth Brock Elliott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marietta Pennington.
Gary was a beacon of dedication, reliably serving as a minister for the First Pentecostal Church for 38 years. His loving nature drew people to him, and his generosity was a cornerstone of his character. He was not just a minister, but a mentor, a friend, and a guide to many.
Gary’s life was richly woven with achievements and commitments. His hard work and dedication were evident in his successful career in vending sales across the tri-county area. He was an active member of Hugh Harris Lodge #938, York Rite, and Scottish Rite, contributing his wisdom and experience to these organizations. His life was a beautiful blend of service, dedication, love, and generosity.
He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Scalf Elliott; son, Sean Elliott, and wife Leah; daughter, Wendy Helton; sister, June Johnson; grandkids, Sean Helton, Makalee Lambert, Gracyn Elliott; great-grandkids, Ryker Helton and Reagan Helton; and by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 11-1 pm on Thursday, December 12, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 1 pm with Bro. Gorman Scalf and Bro. Danny Mitchell officiating, and masonic rites by Hugh Harris Lodge #938.
Burial will follow in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Lily, KY, with Sean Helton, Dale Johnson, Doyle Johnson, Wes McFadden, Eddie Helton, and Harley Lambert serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to the End Alzheimer’s Association at endalz.org.
